  • Carbon Steel
Cold Rolled C1008 Flat expanded metal mesh. Minimum thickness 18ga (.047")
  • Stainless Steel
Type 304 (Standard) or 316 (For higher degree of corrosion resistance) Flat expanded metal mesh. Minimum thickness 18 Ga. (.050")
  • Finishes

Aluminum: Baked polyester powder enamel, or two or three coatfluoropolymer coatings by PPG® or Valspar®, or gray polyester prime for field painting.

Carbon Steel: Baked polyester powder enamel, or gray polyester prime for field painting.

Stainless Steel: Typically provided uncoated, due to stainless steel's inherent corrosion resistance. Can be
provided with a decorative brushed finish.

  • Dimensions
Metal Ceiling Panels are typically supplied up to a maximum of 3’- 8” in width and 7’- 8” in length inclusive offrame.
  • Nelson offers a complete line of lay-in, clip-on (Torsion spring), hook-on and tab-and-slot type systems.
  • Acoustics
NUVO Mesh Expanded Metal Ceiling and Wall panels can be supplied with sound absorbing acoustical insulation. Superior NRC values can be achieved via acoustical insulation batts applied on-site.
  • Patterns and Designs
For complete mesh pattern and panel design options please contact your Nelson Sales Representative to assist with your project design. For more details and options see our booklet “Metalouges”- an introduction to architectural metals, or contact your local Nelson Sales Representative and request our Architectural Metals Binder.

When durability, acoustics, or simply the beauty of metal is a major criterion for interior vertical surfaces, Nelson Architectural Metals Division has a solution. Available in a wide variety of designs and finishes, we manufacture metal wall panel systems for commercial, institutional and transportation facilities across North America.

Metal wall panels are available in a variety of metal alloys best suited for the intended application and typically range from .064 up to .125 inches in thickness. The most common panel alloys are 3003-H14 for aluminum and T-304 and T-316 for stainless steel. For optimal results, panels intended for anodizing plain (Mill) or brushed finishes generally require the use of a 5005-H34 alloy.

In addition to the aforementioned options, baked powder enamel, and two and three-coat fluoropolymer paints are commonly used to enhance the appearance of our panels. Nelson also offers a wide range of linear, non-directional and selective brushed finishes, particularly in stainless steel, as well as faux-wood options like our exclusive Ourborite™ finish.

Metal wall panels are available in non-perforated and perforated varieties. Non-perforated panels offer little in terms of acoustical properties other than reflecting sound where required. As a result they are generally used in instances where other features, for example ease of cleaning, are predominant factors. To achieve good acoustics, (High NRC or Noise Reduction Coefficient values) a perforated wall panel with an open area of 15 to 20 percent, together with an acoustical fleece (SoundTex®), should typically be used in combination with a fiberglass matt for optimum sound absorption. A wide variety of perforation patterns are available (straight, diagonal, staggered), as well as a range of hole sizes (round, square, oblong). The Nelson fabrication team works symbiotically with the architectural team's vision regarding decorative metal wall panels.

At Nelson Architectural Metals Division we draw from a resource base of over 150 highly skilled employees, many of whom have been engaged in this type of manufacture at Nelson for more than 25 years. Our ability to custom engineer and fabricate metal wall panel systems to meet the rigorous demands of architects and designers makes for a perfect fit from the conception to the completion of a new space.
